From the recording Daddy

As soon as I heard this song on the Red Dirt Rangers’ Lone Chimney album, I knew I wanted to learn it.  I love the authentic honky-tonk vibe, and it fits in perfectly with the classic country songs on this album.  I also love that it was written by our friends John Cooper and Bob Childers.  John told me this was the last song he and Bob wrote together, which makes it even more special.  It seems fitting that we close the album with this song, and if you listen closely you’ll hear a little something extra at the very end.

Lyrics

Sitting alone in my misery
Old Hank Williams got nothing on me
I’m making my own honky-tonk history
The whole world knows
What you done to me
Broke my heart and set me free
I’m making my own honky-tonk history
Honky-tonk history
Almost too blue to believe
I’m making my own honky-tonk history
Running from your memory
Neon lights and cheap whiskey
I’m making my own honky-tonk history
Honky-tonk history
Almost too blue to believe
I’m making my own honky-tonk history
We’ve all got stories we can tell
How our heaven turned to hell
We’re making our own
Honky-tonk history
Honky-tonk history
Almost too blue to believe
I’m making my own honky-tonk history
