From the recording Sarah Barker & Gypsy Twang

I first heard this country shuffle tune on YouTube.  The Rangers had played it at the Woody Guthrie Festival, and it was a clip from their performance.  It sounds like an instant classic!  A friend suggested I should learn it, so I did.  We’ve been playing it in the band ever since.  Brad Piccolo is a great songwriter, and I’m pleased to have one of his songs on our disc.   This song is featured on the Red Dirt Rangers’ Lone Chimney album ~ a must-have in any Red Dirt collection.
As Brad says, “Keep spreadin’ the dirt!”

Lyrics

Without my baby I’m lonesome
Without my baby I’m blue
Without my baby I’m nothing and I’ve got nothing to lose
Without my baby I’m breaking one piece at a time
Without my baby I’m slowly going out of my mind
There was a time we were happy in our little home
Then I started out rambling and I started to roam
Somehow we lost our connection, no reason or rhyme
Without my baby I’m slowly going out of my mind
Going out of my mind, drinking whiskey and wine
Now I’m doing time for this honky-tonk crime
Without my baby I’m breaking one piece at a time
Without my baby I’m slowly going out of my mind
Without my baby I’m sinking, Lord I’m going down fast
Hey there mister bartender won’t you fill up my glass?
You’d better make it a double, it’s nearly closing time
Without my baby I’m slowly going out of my mind
