From the recording Sarah Barker & Gypsy Twang

I loved Bob Childers as a friend and had great respect for him as a songwriter.  He was sweet, funny and kind to me, and always encouraged my writing.  I cried for days when he died, even though I knew he had been suffering for a long time and my friends reminded me he was in a better place.  I still miss him terribly.   We all do.  This song is my gift to him.
 God bless Bob.

Lyrics

I think the angels could have waited

And let me say goodbye just one more time
I never quite anticipated
Even though I guess I saw the signs
Oh I know you’re in a better place
At least that’s what my friends keep telling me
So I’m praying for the grace of God
To let you go and set my poor heart free
            (Chorus)
            Never even kissed you
Never even laid down by your side
But you knew how much I’d miss you
And you knew the tears I’d cry
Now your spirit’s gone to heaven
And left your soul behind to carry on
Through the love we have between us
And the magic of the music in your songs
I’d like to thank you for your vision
Of the eagle as he circles towards the sun
And for stirring up this dirt beneath our feet
Because we’ve only just begun
            Chorus
I want to sit on the banks of the river
And think about the things you meant to me
And let the Sunshine, Wind and Water
Be the only things I really need
Oh I know how you hated sad songs
So I’ll send my tears on down the Cimarron
Save a place for me in the circle
‘Cause I know I’m bound to see you later on
            Chorus (twice)
I think the angels could have waited
And let me say goodbye just one more time
